Getting Togs to those who need them.

 

Simply not owning a pair of togs can be enough of a barrier to stop kids and adults getting an aquatic education. Among families who are struggling to pay for the bare essentials, a new pair of togs can seem like a luxury. Because of this, kids can fall behind their peers quickly, and put them off getting in the water altogether. That's why this summer, we launched a pilot initiative in Wellington to get togs to those who need them.  

Around the wider Wellington Region, Tog Boxes have been set up in the lobby area of council pools where Wellingtonians have been donating togs, goggles, swim caps, and all manner of swimming equipment to help Kiwis learn vital water safety skills.  

The togs and equipment are washed, sorted, and then redistributed to schools around the Wellington region to help reduce this barrier to aquatics for families. 

The pilot initiative is set to end at the end of Summer in 2020.
